Irvine is one of the nation's
largest planned urban communities and encompasses more than 55
square miles. We contract for fire and medical services with the
County of Orange, and have three independent districts: library,
educational and utility services. Other government services include:
animal control; building and safety regulation and inspection;
general administrative services; planning and zoning; police; public
facility/capital improvement construction; recreation and cultural
programs; refuse collection and recycling; street lighting; street
maintenance; landscape maintenance and transportation management. |

Recreation |

The City of Irvine provides both
Community Parks and Neighborhood Parks.
The
Community Parks have public facilities located on each site. A
range of programs and services are offered to the community.
Neighborhood Parks provide
open space and some recreational amenities within the various
villages of Irvine and usually do not have public facilities or
staff present. Please see

Irvine Unified
School District (IUSD) consistently ranks among the finest
educational systems in the nation. Irvine schools offer innovative
educational programs, open-style classrooms, team-teaching, some
schools with year-round terms, and excellent community involvement.
IUSD educates a diverse student population numbering over 24,000
(K-12), in 22 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 4 comprehensive
high schools, and 1 continuation high school.
The
Tustin Unified
School District (TUSD) serves residents who live in the western
and northern areas of Irvine. TUSD has a long history of excellence
that continues to grow and be enriched by the accomplishments of its
students, teachers, staff and community. The District has 17
elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 2 comprehensive high schools,
a continuation high school, and alternative and adult education
programs.
University of
California at Irvine (UCI) is one of the nation's top academic
